Aesthetics and Chinese: Exploring the Beauty of Chinese Characters in Design

Transforming Text into Visual Symbols

Inspired by the 2019 Creative Poster Design Exhibition, Lien's project titled "Aesthetics and Chinese" aims to showcase the innovative potential of Chinese characters as visual elements. By using font design as a new approach, Lien transforms texts into captivating visual symbols, delving into the future possibilities of crossover, aesthetics, and Chinese characters.

What sets this design apart is its focus on the structure of Chinese characters. Lien presents the strokes and radicals of Chinese characters in a rotating and gradient manner, creating a visually striking composition. The result is a series of works that not only celebrate the beauty of Chinese characters but also push the boundaries of typography.

To highlight the font design, Lien has printed the designs on posters and invitation cards. The choice of printing medium adds a tactile element to the visual experience, enhancing the overall impact of the design.

The technical specifications of the design include a poster size of W70XH100cm, a DM design size of W21XH29.7cm, and a book design size of W14.8XH21cm. These specifications ensure that the design is presented in the most suitable format for each medium.

Creating the structure of the Chinese character font using strokes and radicals required extensive time and testing. Lien's dedication to perfecting the design paid off, resulting in a visually stunning representation of Chinese characters.

The "Aesthetics and Chinese" design project was completed in November 2019 and was exhibited at Tung-Fang Design University in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. By incorporating Chinese characters into contemporary art and literature trends, Lien aims to showcase the rich design capacity of Chinese culture and its characters.

Recognized for its creativity and ingenuity, the "Aesthetics and Chinese" design project received the Bronze A' Design Award in the Graphics, Illustration, and Visual Communication Design category in 2020. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate exceptional technical and creative skills while contributing to improvements in quality of life.
